Healthcare professionals remain positive about industry support of the NHS

Among HCPs, there is increasing agreement that pharmaceutical companies are committed to developing new medicines to meet people’s needs. A majority of HCPs believe pharma companies collaborate with universities to develop new medicines and support the NHS in treating patients. There are also signs that HCPs in this study are more likely to feel that pharma companies work closely with NHS doctors to develop new medicines.

They are constantly working even if competitively with each other to find drugs to improve patient outcomes and the health of our nation. The bigger challenge is sometimes to get these drugs approved by NICE in order for us to prescribe ! Nurse Prescriber

Awareness of VPAG is growing. HCPs aware of VPAG are positive about it

HCP awareness of the Voluntary Scheme for Branded Medicines Pricing and Access (VPAG) has grown, but remains limited. Just over one in three are aware of it, but two in three aren’t sure. Relative to last year, there are signs of increasing awareness of pricing or spending control agreements. But familiarity is also limited; one in three have heard of these while two in three have not or are unsure.

HCPs are much more supportive of various potential uses of funds raised by industry by the VPAG. Most agree that VPAG funds should improve UK health data, keep NHS medicine affordable, and enhance the delivery of clinical trials in the UK.
